EXHIBITION: What was the legacy of Carolingian Europe 814 – 2014?
In 2007 representatives from 26 museums and institutions in 10 countries in the old “Francia Media” – the central core of the Carolingian Empire – got together in order to launch a heritage route (organised in 2011). This collaboration have continued and 2014 a major international exhibition will be shown at Ename in Belgium on the Carolingian Legacy in Europe 814 – 2014. The exhibition takes its point of departure with the division of his legacy in 843 in Verdun between his three grandsons. It was through this division “Francia media” was formally established as a kingdom. Squeezed in between later France and Germany it continued to live on as Burgundy and later a border-region between the two superpowers. Today it is known as “The Blue Banana”.
The exhibition will open in Ename in Belgium on the 9th of May and later move on to Prague, Ravenna and Arles.
