Abstract: After the legendary exhibition about Charlemagne in 1999 the Paderborn museums have once more mounted a spectacular exhibition: CREDO – the Christianization of Europe in the Middle Ages. With more than 800 valuable original loans from over 25 countries, it presents a cultural and historical overview, which has never before been shown in this form. The two-volume catalog of the exhibition presents a panorama of high-caliber exhibits: Early history of Christian art and architecture, literacy and book arts are presented as well as mysterious figures of gods and archaeological finds from the pagan North. In numerous essays by renowned authors the catalogue covers the major stages and cultural changes of transition from the spread of Christianity in the Roman Empire, through the Christianization of Gaul, Ireland and the Anglo-Saxons to the evangelization of Scandinavia, Poland and the Baltic States. The final review of the history of Christianity leads to the question of European identity and the importance of its Christian roots today. Archiepiscopal Diocesan Museum, Museum of the Imperial Palace and City Gallery Am Abdinghof, Paderborn 26 July to 3 November 2013
